Hambak Steak with Kimchi Sauce
Year-End Party Special: Hambak Steak with a Zesty Kimchi Sauce

Simply grilling store-bought hambak steak can sometimes feel a bit rich or one-dimensional. However, pairing it with a vibrant, spicy sauce made from Korea’s beloved kimchi transforms the dish into a perfectly balanced and incredibly delicious experience. This Kimchi Sauce Hambak Steak is remarkably easy to make, requiring just store-bought hambak steak, kimchi, pasta sauce, and cheese, making it an ideal and convenient dish for your year-end parties.
Ingredients- 4 store-bought hambak steaks
- 150g fermented kimchi, finely chopped
- 100g store-bought tomato pasta sauce
- 4 slices mozzarella cheese
- A pinch of dried parsley, for garnish
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Preheat your oven or prepare a frying pan to cook the hambak steaks. If using a frying pan, cook them over medium-low heat until golden brown and cooked through on both sides for a pleasant texture.

Step 2
Lightly grease a frying pan with a little oil and add the finely chopped kimchi. Sauté the kimchi over medium heat until it becomes tender and fragrant, which helps to mellow its tanginess and enhance its flavor.

Step 3
Once the kimchi is softened, stir in the store-bought tomato pasta sauce. Continue to sauté for another 1-2 minutes, mixing well with the kimchi to allow the flavors to meld together beautifully.

Step 4
Transfer the sautéed kimchi sauce into an oven-safe dish or a small skillet. Spread it evenly across the bottom of the dish.

Step 5
Carefully place the cooked hambak steaks on top of the kimchi sauce. Arrange them nicely so they are well-positioned within the sauce.

Step 6
Top each hambak steak with a slice of mozzarella cheese. The cheese will melt into a gooey topping, adding a creamy richness. Finish by sprinkling a little dried parsley over the top for a touch of color and freshness.

Step 7
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for approximately 8 minutes, or until the cheese is beautifully melted and bubbly, and the steaks and sauce are heated through. Baking time may vary slightly depending on your oven.
