Main Ingredients- 1 pack salted seaweed stems (approx. 200-300g)
- 1/4 carrot
Seasoning Ingredients- 2 Tbsp cooking oil
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 2 pinches of salt (adjust to taste at the end)
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 2 pinches of salt (adjust to taste at the end)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, here are the salted seaweed stems. As you can see, they are heavily coated in salt. But they look fresh, so let’s make a delicious stir-fry with them.
Step 2
The most crucial step for salted seaweed stems is to remove the saltiness. Place the seaweed stems in a large bowl and fill it with plenty of water. Once the salt from the seaweed stems settles at the bottom of the bowl, gently lift out the seaweed and discard the first rinse water. Rinse them with water two to three times to remove the salt.
Step 3
Since salted seaweed stems can still retain some saltiness, it’s important to rub them vigorously with your hands, like washing laundry, to clean them thoroughly. This process ensures you can enjoy stir-fried seaweed stems that are not too salty and have no fishy smell. Finally, soak them in clean water for about 10 minutes to remove any remaining impurities and salt.
Step 4
After soaking for 10 minutes, drain the seaweed stems well by squeezing out the excess water. Then, cut them into bite-sized pieces (about 5cm long) and set them aside.
Step 5
The ingredients for this simple stir-fried seaweed stem dish are very basic. Originally, adding onion would enhance the sweetness and flavor, but today I don’t have any, so I’m skipping it. If you have an onion, slice it thinly lengthwise. Mince the garlic finely. Thinly slice the carrot, then julienne it.
Step 6
Heat a large pan or wok and add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. To bring out the garlic flavor first, add 2 tablespoons of minced garlic and sauté over low heat to release its aroma.
Step 7
Once the garlic is fragrant, add the julienned carrots and sauté them lightly with the garlic. Stir-fry just until the carrots are slightly softened.
Step 8
Now it’s time for the star of the dish: add the sliced seaweed stems. Arrange them nicely in the pan.
Step 9
While the seaweed stems themselves have a delicious flavor, add 2 tablespoons of fragrant sesame oil to enhance the taste. Start with just 2 pinches of salt; it’s best to taste and adjust later according to your preference. The saltiness of salted seaweed stems can vary by brand, so tasting and adjusting the salt at the end is essential.
Step 10
After adding the sesame oil, stir-fry everything together over medium-low heat until well combined. The aroma of sesame oil filling the house smells so delicious!
Step 11
Finally, sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds and give it one last quick stir. It’s incredibly simple, isn’t it? With just this simple stir-fried seaweed stem dish, you won’t need any other side dishes. It’s absolutely delicious when you make it fresh for those times you don’t have much appetite!
Step 12
I highly recommend this stir-fried seaweed stem dish as a side dish that’s perfect for this season! It’s very affordable and uses simple ingredients, making it easy for anyone to make. You’ll often see seaweed stems at the supermarket these days, which are in season, so be sure to use them. If you’re planning a camping trip or an outing over the weekend, this will be a very useful side dish to bring along. It’s incredibly delicious, so please try making it! ^^
