Savory and Flavorful Beltfish Rice Bowl
Simple Beltfish Rice Bowl Recipe Using Boneless Beltfish
This is a recipe for a rice bowl using boneless beltfish. It’s a satisfying meal that requires no other side dishes! I’ll guide you through it step-by-step. 🙂
Rice Cooking Ingredients- 400g White Rice
- 100g Sweet Rice (Glutinous Rice)
- 450ml Water
- 2 pieces Dried Kelp (Kombu)
- 2 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse 400g of white rice and 100g of sweet rice thoroughly. Mixing white and sweet rice makes the cooked rice chewy and more delicious. After rinsing, drain the rice in a sieve and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Soaking the rice helps it cook evenly and perfectly.
Step 2
In your rice pot, add 2 tablespoons of sesame oil. Then, add the soaked white rice and sweet rice, along with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Gently stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until the rice grains are coated with oil. This step infuses the rice with a subtle soy sauce aroma, enhancing its flavor.
Step 3
Now, pour in 450ml of water. For typical rice bowls, the water-to-rice ratio is 1:1. However, since we’re using sweet rice, which absorbs more moisture, it’s best to use slightly less water than usual. For 400g of rice, 450ml of water will yield a perfectly chewy and delicious texture.
Step 4
Place the pot over high heat and bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, carefully place the 2 pieces of dried kelp on top of the rice. The kelp will release a savory umami flavor, making the rice even richer. Once the kelp is in, immediately cover the pot with a lid, reduce the heat to medium-low, and let it cook for 15 minutes.
Step 5
While the rice is cooking, prepare the star ingredient: the boneless beltfish. You can pan-sear it in a lightly greased pan or bake it in the oven. Avoid adding heavy seasoning; a simple sear will preserve the fish’s natural flavor and ensure it complements the rice without overpowering it. Using boneless fillets makes preparation easy and enjoyable.
Step 6
After 15 minutes, when the rice is cooked, carefully remove the kelp pieces from the pot. Leaving the kelp in for too long can impart a slightly bitter taste.
Step 7
Now, generously sprinkle the chopped scallions over the cooked rice for a fresh aroma. Arrange the seared beltfish fillets attractively on top. Cover the pot again and let it steam (or ‘settle’) for another 10 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld, and the rice to become perfectly moist and tender.
Step 8
Finally, sprinkle a pinch of toasted sesame seeds for a beautiful finish – your Beltfish Rice Bowl is complete! For an extra burst of flavor, you can prepare a simple dipping sauce by mixing soy sauce, sesame oil, and minced garlic. Drizzle it over the rice and fish before eating. Enjoy this nutritious and delicious Beltfish Rice Bowl for a delightful meal!
