  • 5g Cut Dried Seaweed
  • 30g Carrot
  • 2 Red Chili Peppers
  • 1 Egg
  • 3 Tbsp Starch

Cooking Instructions

First, prepare all the ingredients for your dish. Have the tofu ready to be drained, the seaweed soaked, and all vegetables finely minced.

Mash the block of tofu using the back of a knife, or place it in a cheesecloth and squeeze out as much water as possible. Removing excess water is crucial for the pancakes to hold their shape beautifully without crumbling.

Soak the 5g of cut dried seaweed in cold water for about 30 minutes until fully rehydrated. Once softened, squeeze out the excess water thoroughly by hand. If the seaweed remains too wet, the batter might become too loose.

Remove the seeds from the 2 red chili peppers and mince them very finely. Finely dice the 30g of carrot to a similar size as the chili peppers; this adds a lovely color and pleasant texture.

In a large bowl, combine the mashed tofu (with water squeezed out), the rehydrated and squeezed seaweed, minced carrot, and minced red chili peppers. Crack in 1 egg, then add the measured 3 tablespoons of starch, 0.5 tablespoon of sesame oil, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of pepper.

Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until a cohesive batter is formed. You don’t need to overmix, just ensure everything is well combined so the tofu and seaweed pancake batter is ready.

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Spoon portions of the batter into the pan, shaping them into round, flat pancakes. Ensure they aren’t too thick so they cook through evenly.
