Beef and Cabbage Porridge

Soothing Beef and Cabbage Porridge for Sensitive Stomachs

Beef and Cabbage Porridge

Is this a ‘survival recipe’? I made this porridge for myself when I had gastroenteritis. ㅠㅠ Sometimes, when my children complain of a stomachache, I cook this for them, and they eat it well. It’s made with cabbage, which is good for the stomach and intestines, and beef, which has a warm nature, making it a great choice for breakfast even when you’re not sick.

Ingredients

  • 250g Cabbage
  • 150g Ground Beef
  • 2 bowls Cooked White Rice (warm)
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • A pinch of Gim (seaweed flakes) (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, finely mince the 250g of cabbage after washing it thoroughly. Mincing it very finely will make it easier for children to eat.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a pot over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and 150g of ground beef. Stir-fry until the beef is cooked through and becomes crumbly, allowing the garlic aroma to release.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the beef is somewhat cooked, add the minced cabbage and stir-fry together. Continue to cook for about 2-3 minutes until the cabbage becomes slightly translucent and tender.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, add 2 bowls of warm cooked white rice. Gently press down with a spatula while mixing to ensure the rice is well combined with the sautéed beef and cabbage. This helps the rice absorb the flavors.

Step 4

Step 5

Pour in 500ml of water first and stir while bringing it to a boil, preventing clumps. Once it boils, reduce the heat to medium-low. The water will quickly reduce as the ingredients begin to soften.

Step 5

Step 6

When the water has mostly evaporated, add the remaining 500ml of water and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to season. Continue to stir and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the rice grains are fully softened and the cabbage has become very mushy. Simmering gently will result in a comforting porridge.

Step 6

Step 7

Serve the well-cooked porridge in a bowl. Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of gim (seaweed flakes) on top for added savory flavor. This finished porridge is not only delicious but also a gentle, comforting meal that soothes your stomach.
