How to Make a Satisfying Tuna Potato Mayonnaise Sandwich – A Great Kid’s Snack
Introducing a recipe for a tuna and potato sandwich, featuring the delightful combination of creamy potatoes and savory tuna. It’s a perfect snack for children when they’re feeling peckish, and also easy enough for a quick breakfast or a picnic lunch.
Main Ingredients- 4 slices sandwich bread
- 1 can tuna (already mixed with mayonnaise, or plain tuna)
- 3 medium potatoes
- 1/2 cucumber
- A small amount of bell pepper (using various colors is recommended)
Seasoning & Sauce- 2 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp mustard
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 2 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp mustard
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, toast your sandwich bread until golden brown and let it cool completely. Warm bread can make the filling soggy.
Step 2
Wash the cucumber thoroughly, then finely dice it. Sprinkle a pinch of salt over the diced cucumber and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Squeeze out the excess water; this will help maintain the sandwich’s crisp texture.
Step 3
Wash the potatoes well, place them in a microwave-safe dish, cover with plastic wrap, and steam for about 5-7 minutes (adjust time based on potato size). Once cooked, let the potatoes cool slightly, then peel them and mash them smoothly with a fork or a masher. Finely dice the bell pepper after removing the seeds. Combine the mashed potatoes, diced bell pepper, and the squeezed cucumber in a large bowl.
Step 4
Add 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise and 1 teaspoon of mustard to the bowl with the potatoes, cucumber, and bell pepper. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper to your taste. Gently mix everything together with a spatula or spoon until well combined. If your canned tuna is already seasoned with mayonnaise, adjust the amount of salt accordingly.
Step 5
Slice the cooled sandwich bread in half.
Step 6
Spread the prepared tuna mayonnaise evenly on one side of a bread slice. If using plain tuna, drain the oil before mixing with mayonnaise.
Step 7
Generously spoon the mashed potato mixture onto the bread slice with the tuna mayonnaise. Don’t be shy with the filling – it makes the sandwich tastier!
Step 8
Place the other slice of bread on top, and gently but firmly press down on the entire sandwich to help the filling stay put.
Step 9
Your delicious tuna and potato sandwich is ready! For a lovely presentation, slice it in half and arrange it in a basket. The thick bread showcasing the potato and vegetable filling looks particularly appetizing. Enjoy your meal!
