Perfectly Cook Hard-Boiled & Soft-Boiled Eggs Simultaneously
The Secret to Cooking Hard-Boiled and Soft-Boiled Eggs Perfectly at the Same Time
Hello, everyone! Eggs are a staple, but preferences vary – some love them fully cooked (hard-boiled), while others prefer a gooey, soft-boiled texture. What if you could achieve both perfectly at the same time? This method unlocks that delicious possibility. Let’s dive in!
Ingredients- 4 fresh eggs
- Water, enough to cover the eggs
- 1 tablespoon coarse salt (for boiling water)
- 1 tablespoon vinegar (for boiling water)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Before boiling, take the eggs out of the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This helps prevent the shells from cracking during cooking and ensures a more even cook.
Step 2
Place all the eggs into a pot and cover them with enough cold water to fully submerge. For the soft-boiled eggs, place them in a separate mug and fill it with enough water to cover them as well.
Step 3
Add 1 tablespoon of coarse salt and 1 tablespoon of vinegar to the water in the pot for the hard-boiled eggs. This is crucial for preventing the eggshells from cracking. Also, add a small amount of coarse salt and vinegar to the water in the mug for the soft-boiled eggs.
Step 4
There’s no need to stir the salt and vinegar; they will dissolve naturally once the water boils and help protect the eggs. Cover the pot with a lid and boil for 15 minutes over medium-high heat. This duration will yield perfectly hard-boiled eggs.
Step 5
Meanwhile, the water in the mug will heat up much more slowly than the water in the pot. The pot is directly heated by the stove, but the mug contains a smaller amount of water, making heat transfer less efficient and keeping the boiling point lower. This difference in temperature is the key to achieving soft-boiled eggs.
Step 6
Consequently, while the pot’s water boils vigorously to cook the eggs hard, the water inside the mug will remain unboiled or barely simmering, gently cooking the eggs to a soft, jammy yolk consistency.
Step 7
Once boiled, immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice-cold water to stop the cooking process. Gently tap the shells to create fine cracks, then peel them under running water or while submerged. The shells should slip off easily and cleanly. Now, enjoy your perfectly cooked hard-boiled and deliciously soft-boiled eggs!
