Garlicky Walnut Soy-Braised Eggs
Savory Soy-Braised Eggs with Garlic and Walnuts
Steamed eggs are transformed into a delicious braised dish with the addition of garlic and walnuts. The eggs, paired with the fragrant garlic and crunchy walnuts, offer a delightful texture that prevents them from being dry and enhances their overall flavor. This dish is a perfect side for rice!
Main Ingredients- 12 Steamed Eggs (or hard-boiled eggs)
- 1/2 cup Walnuts
- 2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare all the ingredients for your delicious garlicky walnut soy-braised eggs. Ensure your eggs are steamed or hard-boiled and peeled. Roughly chop the walnuts and mince the garlic.
Step 2
Carefully peel the steamed or boiled eggs. You can also cut them in half if desired. For better flavor absorption, you can lightly score the surface of the eggs with a knife.
Step 3
In a pot with a lid, combine the prepared eggs, soy sauce, mirin (or sake), sugar, and water. Give it a gentle stir to mix the ingredients.
Step 4
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer gently for about 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has reduced and become slightly syrupy. Rotate the eggs occasionally to ensure they are evenly coated with the sauce.
Step 5
Once the sauce has thickened, add the minced garlic and chopped walnuts to the pot. Simmer for another 5 minutes, just until the walnuts soften slightly and the garlic becomes fragrant. Avoid overcooking at this stage to keep the garlic’s fresh aroma.
Step 6
Your garlicky walnut soy-braised eggs are now ready! The rich aroma of garlic, the satisfying crunch of walnuts, and the tender eggs create a wonderfully balanced dish that’s perfect served with warm rice. Enjoy this delightful treat!
