Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Chicken is always a treat, isn’t it? Let’s make some at home easily!
Step 2
You can find chicken coating mix in most supermarkets, often near the curry powder section. I used one from ‘High Mall’ purchased online, but if you don’t have it, a mix of curry powder and tempura flour (about 1:1 ratio) works wonderfully as a substitute.
Step 3
Pat the chicken drumsticks thoroughly dry with paper towels. This helps the coating adhere better. If you have mirin (rice wine), a little splash will help remove any unwanted odors.
Step 4
Make a few shallow cuts into the flesh of the drumsticks with a knife. This allows the seasoning to penetrate better and ensures even cooking. Lightly season with black pepper.
Step 5
To avoid a mess, skip the tray and use a zip-top bag or a plastic bag instead! First, place the drumsticks into the bag, then add the chicken coating mix. This method keeps the flour contained and your kitchen clean.
Step 6
Seal the bag securely and give it a good shake to coat the chicken drumsticks evenly with the mix! (‘Shake, shake, shake!’ Get enthusiastic!) Once coated, arrange the drumsticks in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Cook at 180°C (350°F) for 20 minutes.
Step 7
Halfway through cooking, around the 10-minute mark, open the air fryer and carefully flip the drumsticks over. This ensures they cook evenly and get crispy on all sides.
Step 8
For an extra crispy finish, you can increase the temperature to 200°C (400°F) for the last 5 minutes of cooking. This will give your chicken an even more satisfying crunch.
Step 9
While the chicken is cooking, a light spray of cooking oil over the drumsticks or in the air fryer basket can enhance the color and crispiness.
Step 10
Look at them go! They’re browning beautifully and smell incredible. They’re cooking up perfectly.
Step 11
The aroma of homemade air fryer chicken filling your kitchen is simply wonderful, without any of the greasy smells associated with frying.
Step 12
There’s nothing quite like piping hot, freshly cooked chicken paired with a cold beer. It’s pure bliss!
Step 13
Now, let’s prepare the accompanying coleslaw. Finely shred the cabbage. The thinner you slice it, the more tender and pleasant the texture will be.
Step 14
Here’s a little secret for a flavor boost: whole grain mustard! It adds a wonderful tang and depth to the coleslaw, differentiating it from the usual creamy dressing.
Step 15
In a bowl, combine the shredded cabbage with mayonnaise, lemon juice, whole grain mustard, oligodang (or corn syrup), chopped pickles, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.
Step 16
The combination of crisp cabbage and the sweet-and-tangy dressing is irresistible. This coleslaw is so good, you’ll find yourself reaching for more!
Step 17
Considering that ordering chicken delivery can cost around $25 these days, making it at home is incredibly budget-friendly. You can likely make this for under $10, including ingredients. Give it a try – you won’t regret it!
