Classic French Toast, Just Like Mom Used to Make
Simple and Delicious Homemade French Toast Recipe
This French toast recipe brings back cherished childhood memories, as it’s a dish my mom frequently made for me! Now, as a high schooler capable of cooking for myself, it’s one of my go-to simple meals. While this recipe is widely known for its ease of preparation, I’m excited to share my version with you! Anyone can make this!
Ingredients (per serving)- 2 large eggs
- 2-3 slices of bread (depending on preference)
- 1/2 cup milk (using a paper cup for measurement)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by cracking 2 eggs into a bowl. For a smoother texture, you can strain out the egg whites (the stringy part). Then, add 1/2 cup of milk and a pinch of salt (optional). Whisk everything together gently until well combined. Aim for a consistency similar to a light custard.
Step 2
Carefully dip the bread slices into the egg and milk mixture. Gently press down to ensure the bread soaks up the liquid thoroughly on both sides, about 30 seconds to 1 minute per side. Be gentle to avoid the bread breaking apart. Thicker slices of bread tend to hold up better.
Step 3
While the bread is soaking, preheat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. It’s important not to use high heat, as this can burn the outside before the inside is cooked.
Step 4
Once the pan is warm, add a pat of butter or a little cooking oil. Place the soaked bread slices onto the skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until the French toast is a beautiful golden brown. Flip carefully to ensure even cooking. You’re looking for a slightly crisp exterior and a wonderfully soft, custardy interior. 🍳
Step 5
And there you have it! Perfectly golden and delicious French toast, ready to be enjoyed. Transfer the cooked French toast to a plate. It’s wonderful served warm, perhaps with a dusting of powdered sugar, fresh fruits, or a drizzle of maple syrup or honey for an extra special treat. 😋
