Ingredients

  • 4 sheets of fish cake
  • 1/4 medium onion
  • 1 handful of green onion
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 tsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
  • 1/3 cup water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

We’re going to make the popular side dish, stir-fried fish cake, even more abundant and delicious by adding onions. This recipe creates a perfect harmony between the chewy texture of fish cake and the sweet flavor of onion, making it an excellent side dish for rice.

Step 1

Step 2

First, cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm wide. Slice the onion thinly and cut the green onion diagonally or thinly. If you like, you can add a little minced garlic. Lightly grease a pan with cooking oil, add the chopped green onion, and gently sauté over low heat to create scallion oil. It’s important to cook until the aroma of the scallions is fully released.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the scallion oil is ready, add the sliced fish cake and onion to the pan. Stir-fry them together over medium heat. Cook until the fish cake softens slightly and the onion becomes translucent. Be careful not to overcook, as the fish cake can become tough.

Step 3

Step 4

Now it’s time to add the seasonings. Add 1 tsp of soy sauce, 1 tsp of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes), and 1 tsp of oligosaccharide. Stir and stir-fry quickly to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent the sauce from burning. Pour in about 1/3 cup of water to prevent the sauce from burning and add moisture. Stir-fry a little longer until the water is slightly reduced, then turn off the heat.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a garnish. You’ll have a wonderfully soft and sweet stir-fried fish cake with onion that isn’t dry at all! This dish is delicious even when cold, making it perfect for lunchboxes or as a simple snack.
