Super Simple Bacon Mung Bean Sprout Stir-fry: Plus Tips for Storing Mung Bean Sprouts
Whip up this delicious side dish in just 5 minutes! Perfect for busy days, this stir-fry combines crunchy mung bean sprouts with savory bacon for an irresistible flavor.
Ingredients- 200g Mung bean sprouts (shake well in the bag to remove excess water)
- 3-4 strips Bacon
- A small bunch of Scallions (for garnish and flavor)
- 1/4 medium Onion
- 1 Tbsp Oyster sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s get the ingredients ready! First, chop the bacon into bite-sized pieces, about 1cm thick. Thinly slice the onion and cut the scallions (or the white parts of green onions) into 4-5cm lengths. Rinse the mung bean sprouts lightly under running water and drain them thoroughly in a colander. Shaking the bag will help remove more water.
Step 2
Heat a pan over medium-low heat and add a little oil (you can skip this if the bacon releases enough fat). Sauté the sliced onions until they become translucent, releasing their aroma. Once the onions are softened, add the chopped bacon and cook over medium heat until it turns golden brown and crispy. This renders the bacon fat and adds a wonderful savory flavor to the dish.
Step 3
Now, it’s time for the star of the dish – the mung bean sprouts! Add the well-drained mung bean sprouts to the pan and turn the heat up to high. Stir-frying over high heat for a short time is key to maintaining their crispiness and preventing them from becoming watery. Toss everything for about 1-2 minutes until the sprouts are just wilted but still retain their crunch. Don’t overcook them!
Step 4
Add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce to the pan. Oyster sauce is the secret to its delicious umami flavor! Drizzle it along the sides of the pan and quickly toss everything together over high heat. This helps the sauce coat the ingredients evenly and gives them a beautiful sheen.
Step 5
Finally, add the prepared scallions (or green onions) and give everything a final quick toss to combine. Your delicious Bacon and Mung Bean Sprout Stir-fry is ready! Serve it hot over steamed rice or enjoy it as a simple side dish. You’ve just created a flavorful meal in under 5 minutes!
