Crispy & Sweet Nutritious Walnut Candies
Make Nutritious Walnut Candies: A Perfect Snack & Drink Accompaniment with Your Air Fryer
Walnuts are a staple in my daily nut consumption; I always make sure to have a fresh supply. While I sometimes get tired of them, I recently decided to transform them into irresistible candied walnuts. These aren’t just a snack; their satisfying crunch and sweet coating make them a fantastic accompaniment for drinks too. This recipe uses an air fryer for an extra easy and perfectly crispy finish!
Ingredients- 1 paper cup walnuts (approx. 100g)
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 0.5 Tbsp corn syrup (or oligodang)
- 70ml water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
To begin making these delicious candied walnuts, measure out 1 paper cup of walnuts. This is approximately 100g.
Step 2
Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the prepared walnuts. Blanch them for about 5 minutes. This step helps to remove any astringency and enhances their nutty flavor. After 5 minutes, drain the walnuts and rinse them under cold running water.
Step 3
Place the rinsed walnuts in a colander and let them drain thoroughly. It’s crucial that the walnuts are completely dry to ensure a crispy result; any excess water can make the candies soggy.
Step 4
In a saucepan, combine 70ml of water, 3 Tbsp of sugar, and 0.5 Tbsp of corn syrup. Place it over low heat to create a syrup. Resist the urge to stir initially; let the sugar dissolve on its own to prevent crystallization and ensure even cooking.
Step 5
Once the sugar has fully dissolved and the syrup begins to thicken to a slightly sticky consistency, add the drained walnuts. Stir quickly to coat the walnuts evenly with the syrup.
Step 6
Turn off the heat and continue to stir the walnuts gently. The residual heat will help the syrup absorb into the walnuts, creating a beautiful glossy finish. Ensure the walnuts are well separated so they don’t clump together.
Step 7
Transfer the coated walnuts to your air fryer basket. Air fry at 180°C (356°F) for 5 minutes. This final step ensures the candies are wonderfully crisp on the outside and deliciously chewy inside. Allow them to cool completely before enjoying for maximum crispiness!
