Delicious Hayariisu: Easy Homemade Japanese Curry Stew
How to Make Hayariisu (Japanese Curry Stew) with Powder Mix
Tired of making the same old curry? I recently came across Hayariisu powder and decided to give it a try. It’s a mild and flavorful dish that everyone from children to adults can enjoy together. This recipe makes it incredibly easy to create a delicious Hayariisu at home.
Main Ingredients- Pork 300g (use curry-cut or your preferred cut)
- Potatoes 3 medium
- Onions 2 medium
- King Oyster Mushrooms 2
- Butter 2 slices (adds a wonderful richness!)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients by cutting them into bite-sized cubes, about 2cm in size. Try to cut the potatoes and onions into similar sizes so they cook evenly.
Step 2
Heat 3 Tbsp of oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they become translucent. This step helps to bring out their natural sweetness. Then, add the pork, potatoes, and king oyster mushrooms to the pan. Season lightly with salt and pepper, and stir-fry until all ingredients are lightly browned.
Step 3
Once the ingredients are partially cooked, pour in the 700ml of water and bring to a boil over high heat.
Step 4
When the water starts to boil, add the entire 100g packet of Hayariisu sauce mix. Whisk continuously with a spatula or ladle, ensuring there are no lumps and the powder is fully dissolved. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently.
Step 5
As the Hayariisu sauce thickens and starts to bubble, stir in 2 Tbsp of ketchup. Mix well until combined. The ketchup adds an extra layer of depth and flavor.
Step 6
Now it’s time to taste and adjust the seasoning. If needed, add a little salt to reach your desired taste. Finally, add the 2 slices of butter and let them melt slowly over low heat. The butter will make the stew incredibly smooth and rich.
Step 7
Once the butter has completely melted and the sauce and ingredients are well combined, your delicious Hayariisu is ready! Serve generously over hot rice and enjoy.
