Ingredients

  • 2 packs Jjajangmyeon noodles
  • 650ml water
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 stalk green onion
  • 1 Tbsp curry powder
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, in a wide pot or wok, measure and pour in 650ml of water, the amount specified for 2 packs of jjajangmyeon noodles. Bring this to a boil over high heat.

Step 1

Step 2

While the water is boiling, thinly slice the green onion. It’s helpful to have all your ingredients prepped before you start cooking.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the water is rapidly boiling, carefully add both packs of jjajangmyeon noodles. Gently loosen the noodles as they cook to prevent them from sticking together.

Step 3

Step 4

As the noodles begin to soften, add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic to enhance the flavor. The garlic will meld with the jjajang sauce, creating a richer taste.

Step 4

Step 5

When the noodles have loosened and started to cook, add the minced garlic and stir well. Allow the garlic aroma to subtly infuse into the broth. (Note: It’s slightly more natural to add the garlic in step 3. If you’ve already added it, you can skip this step.)

Step 5

Step 6

As the noodles reach your desired tenderness, it’s time to add the star ingredient: 1 tablespoon of curry powder. Stir well to ensure the curry powder is evenly distributed throughout the noodles and sauce, allowing the curry fragrance to develop.

Step 6

Step 7

Now, it’s time to add the jjajangmyeon soup base. It’s often recommended to start with only 1 packet and taste, as 2 packets can be quite salty. You can adjust the amount to your preference. (You can use 1.5 or even 2 packets if you prefer a stronger flavor.)

Step 7

Step 8

Stir thoroughly to combine the soup base evenly with the noodles and sauce. Once the sauce thickens and coats the noodles nicely, turn off the heat. Be careful not to overcook, as the noodles can become mushy or too salty.

Step 8

Step 9

Finally, sprinkle 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds over the finished curry powder jjajangmyeon for a garnish. The nutty flavor of the sesame seeds adds a delightful finishing touch.
