Crispy Potato Pancakes Made Easily with a Blender
Whip Up Crispy Potato Pancakes in a Flash with Your Blender!
It’s been ages since I last made potato pancakes, and this time I decided to make them even easier and faster by using a blender! Typically, potato pancakes are made by julienning or grating the potatoes, but to celebrate my new blender purchase, I went ahead and blended them directly. While it’s not a top-tier brand, it’s an affordable model perfect for home use. I wanted to put the blender to the test, so I used firm potatoes that had been sitting at home. The result? A resounding success! I was able to make delicious potato pancakes with the exact same taste and texture as those made with a grater. Now, with just a blender, anyone can easily and quickly enjoy savory potato pancakes. Let me show you the secret to making potato pancakes using a blender, right now!
Main Ingredients- 6 Potatoes
- 2 Tbsp Potato Starch
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Wash the potatoes thoroughly under running water, peel them, and cut them into manageable pieces (about 3-4 cm) for blending.
Step 2
Place the prepared potatoes and a small amount of water (enough to cover the potatoes) into the blender and blend until smooth. Pour the blended potato mixture into a fine-mesh sieve to separate the liquid from the solids.
Step 3
Using the back of a spoon, press down firmly on the potato solids in the sieve to remove as much moisture as possible. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy pancake.
Step 4
Let the pressed potato solids sit for about 10 minutes. You’ll notice a white layer of potato starch forming at the bottom of the bowl as the liquid settles. (This is your natural potato starch!)
Step 5
Carefully pour off the clear liquid, leaving behind the white, fine natural potato starch at the bottom. This natural starch will add a wonderfully chewy texture to your pancakes.
Step 6
In a bowl, combine the drained potato solids and the reserved natural potato starch. Mix well to form a batter. If the batter seems too thin, gradually add more commercial potato starch until it reaches a slightly thick, spoonable consistency – it shouldn’t be runny but should drop heavily from the spoon.
Step 7
Heat a generous amount of oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Spread the potato pancake batter thinly onto the hot pan. Cook, flipping occasionally, until both sides are golden brown and crispy. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious homemade potato pancakes!
