Ingredients- 100g Spam (about 1/2 of a small can)
- 1/2 stalk green onion (white part mainly)
- 1/2 onion (small size)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1/4 cup water (approx. 50ml)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 Tbsp Doenjang (Korean soybean paste)
- 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 Tbsp Mirin (or cooking wine)
- 2 Tbsp Oligodang (or corn syrup)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp Doenjang (Korean soybean paste)
- 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 Tbsp Mirin (or cooking wine)
- 2 Tbsp Oligodang (or corn syrup)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients. Dice the Spam into small, 1cm cubes. Finely chop the onion and slice the green onion. Measure out the minced garlic.
Step 2
To slightly reduce the saltiness and greasiness of the Spam, blanch it in boiling water for about 30 seconds. Rinse it under cold water and drain thoroughly before using it in the recipe for a cleaner taste.
Step 3
Heat a little cooking oil in a pot over medium-low heat. Add the chopped green onion and onion and sauté until the onion becomes translucent and the green onion releases its aroma. This process helps to bring out the natural sweetness of the vegetables. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
Step 4
Once the vegetables are softened, add the diced Spam and stir-fry them together. When the Spam is lightly browned, add the seasoning ingredients: 1 Tbsp Doenjang, 1 Tbsp Gochujang, 2 Tbsp Mirin, 2 Tbsp Oligodang, and 1 Tbsp sesame oil. Mix well to ensure the seasoning coats the Spam and vegetables evenly. Finally, pour in 1/4 cup of water and let it simmer over medium-low heat until the sauce thickens slightly and becomes glossy. Your delicious Spam Ssamjang is ready! Serve it over warm rice or enjoy it with lettuce wraps for an extra burst of flavor.
