Quick & Delicious Kimchi Radish Fried Rice Recipe
Make a Satisfying One-Bowl Meal with Perfectly Aged Kimchi Radish!
My mom’s homemade kimchi radish is wonderfully aged and packed with flavor! When it’s too little to be a side dish but a shame to waste, this quick fried rice recipe is the perfect solution. Even if you only have kimchi or kimchi radish on hand, you can easily create a delicious meal. Let me guide you through this simple and tasty recipe!
Ingredients- 1 bowl of well-fermented kimchi radish (approx. 150g)
- 1 piece of unsalted butter (approx. 10g)
- 2 servings of warm cooked rice (approx. 400g)
- 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 eggs (for fried eggs)
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, finely chop the kimchi radish into bite-sized pieces. If the pieces are too large, they might not mix well with the rice when stir-frying. Melt 1 piece of butter in a heated pan. When making fried rice with just kimchi radish and no other meat ingredients, the rich, nutty flavor of butter helps to compensate. This buttery aroma will complement the tanginess of the radish, creating a much deeper flavor profile. You can omit the butter if you prefer, but I highly recommend using it!
Step 2
Once the butter has melted, add the chopped kimchi radish and stir-fry until fragrant. The moisture released from the radish will combine with the butter, releasing a delicious aroma. Continue to sauté until the kimchi radish softens slightly. Then, add the 2 servings of warm cooked rice. Using a spatula, break up any clumps of rice and thoroughly mix it with the kimchi radish, stir-frying until everything is well combined.
Step 3
After the rice and kimchi radish are well mixed, it’s time to add the seasonings. To enhance the color and add a touch of spiciness, stir in 1 tablespoon of gochujang. If you prefer less heat, you can reduce the amount of gochujang. To boost the umami flavor, add 1/2 tablespoon of oyster sauce. Oyster sauce is the secret ingredient that elevates your kimchi radish fried rice to a new level of deliciousness! You can adjust the amount of oyster sauce to your taste, but even a small amount will significantly enhance the overall flavor.
Step 4
Continue to stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until the seasonings are evenly distributed. Ensure that each grain of rice is coated with the kimchi radish and seasonings. That’s it – it’s ready! It’s surprisingly easy to make a satisfying one-bowl meal with just well-fermented kimchi radish, even without many other ingredients.
Step 5
While it’s delicious on its own, the perfect topping for fried rice is undoubtedly a fried egg! Prepare your fried egg to your preference – sunny-side up or over-easy. Breaking the runny yolk and mixing it with the rice creates an incredibly rich and satisfying taste. Finally, sprinkle a pinch of toasted sesame seeds on top for a visually appealing and even more flavorful finish. Enjoy your delicious kimchi radish fried rice!
