Main Ingredients

  • 300g fresh soybean sprouts
  • 1 cup water (approx. 200ml)
  • 1 Tbsp coarse salt (for boiling the sprouts)

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil (adds a nutty aroma)
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • A little green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 pinch MSG salt (or a tiny bit of Dashida for umami)
  • 1 tsp salt (for adjusting the taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the soybean sprouts thoroughly under running water. Place the washed sprouts, 1 cup of water, and 1 Tbsp of coarse salt in a pot. Cover and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once boiling vigorously, remove the lid and continue to cook for about 2 minutes. This helps keep the sprouts crisp while ensuring they are cooked through. Turn off the heat and drain the sprouts, setting them aside.

Step 2

While the sprouts are boiling, let’s prepare the delicious seasoning. In a large bowl or basin, combine the finely chopped green onion, minced garlic, and gochugaru.

Step 2

Step 3

Using tongs, gently lift the boiled sprouts, letting excess water drip off, and immediately add them to the bowl with the prepared seasoning. Seasoning them while they are still warm helps the flavors to meld better.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, add 1 Tbsp of fragrant sesame oil, 1 pinch of MSG salt for an extra boost of flavor (or a tiny bit of Dashida if you don’t have MSG salt), and 1 tsp of salt to adjust the seasoning to your preference. Gently mix everything together, being careful not to mash the sprouts, and your delicious seasoned soybean sprouts are ready! Taste and add more salt if needed.
