Perfect Rice in a Pressure Cooker: Foolproof Method for Beginners
How to cook rice in a pressure cooker, rice water ratio, cooking rice without an electric cooker, beginner’s guide to cooking rice, rice cooking time, delicious rice recipe
Hello everyone, this is Superpower! Today, I’m sharing my method for cooking perfect rice in a pressure cooker. At my home, we always use a pressure cooker instead of an electric one. I usually cook enough for 4-5 people to eat fresh daily, or store it in airtight containers in the refrigerator to reheat in the microwave. Many beginners find it tricky to get the water ratio right when cooking rice. Since everyone prefers their rice a little differently, I’ve included a simple ratio and explanation that doesn’t require precise measuring cups. Let’s get started on how to cook rice beautifully in a pressure cooker!
Basic Ingredients- Rice (as much as you need to eat, based on 1 cup)
- Water (1:1 ratio with rice)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the amount of rice you wish to cook. Place the rice in the pressure cooker and rinse it 2-3 times. Gently rinse the rice without breaking the grains.
Step 2
Now, add the water for cooking the rice. Aim for a 1:1 ratio of rice to water. If measuring precisely is difficult, you can use your hand as a guide! Add water until it reaches your wrist bone, with a slight ‘sloshing’ sound when you tilt the pot. If you’ve soaked the rice beforehand, use slightly less water, as soaked rice already contains moisture and will cook up soft with less liquid.
Step 3
Close the lid of the pressure cooker securely. Make sure the pressure valve (steam release knob) is properly upright. This ensures the pressure builds correctly for perfectly cooked rice.
Step 4
Now, heat the pressure cooker over high heat. Once you hear the ‘hissing’ sound of steam escaping from the valve, set a timer for 2 minutes. After the 2 minutes are up, turn off the heat immediately.
Step 5
After turning off the heat, wait patiently until all the steam has naturally escaped and the ‘hissing’ sound stops. This resting period allows the rice to finish cooking and absorb moisture evenly, enhancing its flavor and texture.
Step 6
Once you confirm all the steam has been released, carefully open the lid. Gently fluff the rice once or twice with a spatula. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the rice mushy.
Step 7
Voila! Your perfectly cooked rice is ready! Enjoy this fluffy, glossy, freshly steamed rice.
