Gourmet Ham & Cheese Sandwich
The Perfect Harmony of Salty and Sweet: Homemade Jamón Cheese Sandwich Recipe
Embark on a culinary adventure with Jamón! Recently, I had the pleasure of trying Jamón for the first time, and it was a revelation. While I knew it could be enjoyed as a snack or in sandwiches, I was initially unsure how best to prepare it. After browsing online, I discovered the delightful combination of Jamón with cheese and fruit in a sandwich. Inspired, I decided to create my own Jamón cheese sandwich using ingredients I had on hand. The first bite was a burst of savory, salty flavor! It was no surprise, given the pairing of the slightly salty Gouda cheese with the cured Jamón. However, the crisp, sweet apple balanced the richness perfectly, making it a delightful and satisfying meal, even with its inherent saltiness, especially when paired with a glass of milk. Let’s make this wonderful Jamón sandwich together!
Ingredients- 4 slices of whole grain bread
- 2 slices of Jamón
- Gouda cheese, thinly sliced, as needed
- 1 apple
- A little pizza sauce
- A little whole grain mustard
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, spread a generous layer of pizza sauce on one side of each slice of bread. Then, spread a thin layer of whole grain mustard on the other side. These two sauces will add a wonderful depth of flavor to your sandwich.
Step 2
Next, carefully arrange the thinly sliced Jamón over the sauce. The savory, salty notes of the Jamón are key to this sandwich, so aim for an even, not overly thick, layer.
Step 3
Now, add the thinly sliced Gouda cheese on top of the Jamón, distributing it evenly. The creamy texture and rich flavor of the Gouda cheese will beautifully complement the salty Jamón.
Step 4
Finally, thinly slice the apple and arrange the slices attractively over the cheese. The crispness and natural sweetness of the apple will cut through the saltiness, creating a wonderfully balanced bite.
Step 5
Place the other slice of bread on top, sauce-side down, to complete the sandwich. Gently press down to hold everything together.
Step 6
Heat a dry frying pan over medium-low heat (no oil needed). Grill the assembled sandwich on both sides until golden brown and slightly crispy. This warming process melts the cheese slightly and toasts the bread beautifully. Enjoy this delightful Jamón sandwich as a satisfying meal, perhaps with a glass of milk!
