Cooking Instructions

Step 1

This ssamjang recipe is incredibly simple – all you need to do is mix everything together! While homemade doenjang is wonderful for soups, it can sometimes lack a bit of punch when used as a dipping sauce on its own. However, by adding these complementary seasonings, you unlock a whole new level of flavor, enhancing the soybean paste’s natural depth without losing its essence. This is the beauty of using homemade doenjang and gochujang.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, combine the doenjang, gochujang, minced garlic, gochugaru, minced onion, minced red chili, and minced Cheongyang chili. Stir everything thoroughly until well combined. Finally, add the sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds, and mix once more. Your delicious ssamjang is ready to be enjoyed!

Step 3

Today, I’m out of my usual쌈 (ssam) vegetables, so I’m opting for fresh raw cabbage leaves. What else could you possibly need? Some spicy, seasoned green onion salad (pachae muchim), this flavorful ssamjang, and a crunchy cabbage wrap – that’s all it takes. Could grilled pork belly (samgyeopsal) taste any better than this? This simple ssamjang truly elevates the dining experience.
