- Cooking syrup (or corn syrup) 2 Tbsp
- Mirin (cooking sake) 1 Tbsp
- Water 2 soju cups (approx. 360ml)
- Sesame oil 1/2 tsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your leftover boiled pork from the refrigerator. This recipe uses about one plateful, which is approximately 200-250g. Using a generous amount will make it even tastier.
Step 2
In a deep pan or pot, combine all the Dongpo Pork sauce ingredients (soy sauce, oyster sauce, cooking syrup, mirin, water) and sliced garlic. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring to ensure the sauce ingredients are well mixed.
Step 3
Once the sauce is bubbling vigorously, add the prepared leftover boiled pork, sliced into bite-sized pieces. Avoid slicing too thinly, as this will help prevent the pork from breaking apart during cooking and will maintain a better texture.
Step 4
Reduce the heat to medium and let the sauce simmer gently for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to deeply penetrate the pork. Stir the pork occasionally to ensure even coating and to prevent sticking or burning.
Step 5
When the sauce has thickened to a glaze and the pork looks glossy, it’s almost ready. Finally, drizzle in about half a teaspoon of sesame oil for added aroma and turn off the heat. This process results in moist and tender Dongpo Pork. Enjoy with a side of warm rice!
