Hello, this is Chans Kitchen! Today, we’re making a beloved classic: the street toast! Remember those 1,000-won toasts sold near subway stations? This recipe brings that nostalgic, simple, yet wonderfully sweet flavor right into your home. Enjoy this comforting and delicious treat!
Main Ingredients- 4 slices of bread
- 1/4 Cabbage
- 1/3 Carrot
- 2 Eggs
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash and prepare the cabbage and carrot. You’ll need 1/4 of a cabbage and 1/3 of a carrot. Using a knife or a mandoline slicer, shred them as thinly as possible. The thinner the shreds, the softer and more tender they will be when cooked.
Step 2
Proceed directly to the next step, following the shredding process.
Step 3
In a large bowl, combine 3/4 of the shredded cabbage and carrot. Reserve the remaining 1/4 to add later. Crack in 2 eggs and whisk everything together with a fork or chopsticks until the vegetables are well coated in the egg mixture. Ensuring the egg evenly coats the vegetables is key.
Step 4
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and generously add butter or cooking oil. Place 2 slices of bread in the pan and toast them until golden brown on both sides. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent burning. Crispy toast adds wonderful texture and flavor.
Step 5
Using the same pan or a clean one, heat it again over medium heat. Pour the vegetable and egg mixture into the pan. Cook, flipping occasionally, until the egg is set and lightly browned. Let the vegetables soften and the egg form a cohesive patty.
Step 6
Once the vegetable-egg mixture is cooked, gently push it to one side of the pan. Add the reserved 1/4 portion of shredded vegetables on top of the cooked egg patty. Then, place the remaining 2 slices of bread on top, pressing down gently to adhere everything together. Flip the entire sandwich and lightly toast the other side. This technique helps create a well-filled toast.
Step 7
Carefully transfer the cooked toast to a cutting board or plate. Unfold the bread so the cooked egg and vegetable side is visible. Now it’s time for some sweetness! Sprinkle sugar evenly over the filling according to your preference. Then, drizzle ketchup artistically. Adjust the ratio of sugar to ketchup based on your personal taste.
Step 8
Proceed directly to the next step, following the topping process.
Step 9
Place the remaining toasted bread slice on top to complete your delicious street toast! Press down lightly to ensure the bread and filling meld together nicely.
Step 10
Cut the finished toast in half for easier eating. It’s best enjoyed warm right away. Savor the nostalgic flavors of this delightful street toast!
