Savory Broccoli Salad with Sesame Seeds
Broccoli Sesame Seed Salad Recipe: A Healthy Side Dish for Kids
This is a simple and healthy side dish for children that’s easy to make. Enjoy the nutty flavor of sesame seeds with tender-crisp broccoli!
Ingredients- 1 head of broccoli
- Sesame seeds (whole)
- 2 pinches of salt (for seasoning)
- 0.5 Tbsp salt (for blanching)
- Vinegar (for washing)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets. Before washing, soak the cut broccoli in water with a splash of vinegar for about 5 minutes. This helps to remove any residual pesticides or impurities. After soaking, rinse the broccoli thoroughly under running water multiple times.
Step 2
Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil and add 0.5 Tbsp of salt. Once the water is boiling vigorously, carefully add the prepared broccoli florets and blanch them for just about 30 seconds. Be careful not to over-blanch, as this can destroy nutrients and make the broccoli mushy.
Step 3
Immediately after blanching, quickly rinse the broccoli under cold running water to stop the cooking process and cool it down. This step helps maintain its vibrant green color and crisp texture. Drain the broccoli thoroughly in a colander. It’s crucial to remove excess water, as this will prevent the dressing from adhering properly and can make the dish watery.
Step 4
Place the drained broccoli in a mixing bowl. Add 2 pinches of salt for seasoning. Drizzle in 2 Tbsp of perilla oil (or sesame oil). Lightly crush the whole sesame seeds using your fingers or a mortar and pestle to enhance their nutty aroma and flavor, then add them to the bowl. Gently toss everything together until the broccoli is evenly coated. Avoid mixing too vigorously to prevent the broccoli from breaking apart.
Step 5
Enjoy this delicious Broccoli Sesame Seed Salad! Its nutty aroma and fresh, crisp texture make it a wonderful side dish for meals and a healthy, worry-free snack for children. Enjoy your meal!
