Ingredients

  • 1 potato (medium size)
  • 100g mozzarella cheese or pizza cheese
  • 1/4 onion
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • 1/3 tsp black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp maple syrup (adjust to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare all the necessary ingredients to make a delicious potato pizza.

Step 1

Step 2

Wash the potato, which will be the pizza crust, peel it, and then thinly slice it to about 0.2cm thickness. Using a mandoline slicer or grater will make this easier.

Step 2

Step 3

Stack the thinly sliced potatoes and then julienne them into thin, long strips of about 0.2cm thickness. Cutting them to a consistent thickness will ensure they cook evenly.

Step 3

Step 4

Thinly slice the 1/4 onion and then julienne it. Place the julienned onion in a bowl with the julienned potatoes. Add the prepared salt (1/3 tsp) and black pepper (1/3 tsp) and gently toss to season. You can let it sit for a moment to draw out some moisture from the potatoes.

Step 4

Step 5

Heat a pan over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil, spreading it evenly across the pan. Spread the seasoned potatoes and onions thinly and evenly in the pan. Cook for about 5-7 minutes per side, flipping once, until the potatoes are golden brown and crispy. It’s important to cook the potato crust until it’s firm and holds its shape.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the potato crust is golden brown on both sides, sprinkle a generous amount of the prepared cheese (100g) over the cooked surface. Cover the pan with a lid and cook over low heat for another 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted. You’ll have a delicious pizza with wonderfully stretchy cheese.

Step 6

Step 7

If you’re using an oven, air fryer, or a pan with a grill function, you can place it under the broiler or bake at a high temperature for a short time after adding the cheese. This will create an even more appetizing and impressive visual. Bake for just about 1-2 minutes.

Step 7

Step 8

Voila! Your delicious ‘Real Potato Pizza’ is ready! Carefully slide it from the pan onto a serving plate.

Step 8

Step 9

For an even more fragrant and visually appealing pizza, lightly sprinkle dried basil flakes over the finished pizza. The aromatic basil will further enhance the pizza’s flavor.

Step 9

Step 10

Finally, here’s my top tip! Drizzle about 2 tablespoons of maple syrup over the finished pizza to your liking. The sweetness combined with the savory potatoes creates a ‘seriously amazing’ flavor combination! If you don’t have maple syrup, honey or corn syrup can be substituted for a delicious result. Personally, I’m really loving the flavor of maple syrup these days, so I highly recommend it! Enjoy your meal!
