Ingredients for Blanched Sea Tangle Salad

  • 1 packet Sea Tangle (approx. 200g)
  • 2 Tbsp Anchovy Sauce (or Fish Sauce)
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • A pinch of Toasted Sesame Seeds
  • A drizzle of Sesame Oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

[Blanched Sea Tangle Salad] Bring a pot of water to a boil and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Briefly blanch the sea tangle for about 30 seconds until its color brightens. Be careful not to overcook, as it can become mushy.

Step 1

Step 2

Rinse the blanched sea tangle under cold water and gently squeeze out excess moisture. Cut it into bite-sized pieces (about 3-4 cm). In a bowl, combine the sea tangle, 2 tablespoons anchovy sauce, 1 tablespoon minced garlic, a pinch of sesame seeds, and a drizzle of sesame oil. Gently mix (jomul-jomul) until well combined. This completes your delicious blanched sea tangle salad. For a touch of sweetness, you can add a tiny bit of sugar or plum extract, if desired.

Step 2

Step 3

[Slaty Hair Lettuce and Tofu Salad] Blanch the slaty hair lettuce (also known as ‘Ttot’ in Korean) in boiling water with a little salt for about 30 seconds, just until its vibrant color appears. Rinse under cold water and drain.

Step 3

Step 4

Lightly boil the tofu or microwave it for about 1 minute, then drain and mash it. In a bowl, combine the blanched slaty hair lettuce, prepared mashed tofu, 2 tablespoons anchovy sauce, 1 tablespoon minced garlic, a pinch of sesame seeds, and a drizzle of sesame oil. Mix gently until everything is evenly coated. You’ll have a soft and savory slaty hair lettuce and tofu salad.

Step 4

Step 5

[Seasoned Raw Gim] Gently wash the raw gim (seaweed sheets) under running water and pat it dry. Handle it carefully to avoid tearing or making it too wet.

Step 5

Step 6

Finely chop the green onion. In a bowl, combine the raw gim, chopped green onion, 2 tablespoons anchovy sauce, 1 tablespoon minced garlic, a pinch of sesame seeds, and a drizzle of sesame oil. Gently toss (jomul-jomul) to coat the gim without breaking it. Enjoy this mild and aromatic seasoned raw gim.

Step 6

Step 7

[Green Laver and Radish Salad] Clean the green laver and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Thinly slice the radish into matchsticks.

Step 7

Step 8

Place the julienned radish in a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon anchovy sauce, 2 tablespoons vinegar, and 1 tablespoon minced garlic. Gently mix (jomul-jomul) and let it sit for a few minutes until the radish softens slightly. This step allows the radish to absorb the tangy vinegar dressing.

Step 8

Step 9

Add the prepared green laver, a pinch of sesame seeds, and a drizzle of sesame oil to the bowl. Gently mix everything together until well combined. This creates a refreshing, tangy, and crunchy green laver and radish salad, a perfect accompaniment to any meal.
