Spicy and Sweet Tteokbokki: No Broth Needed!
A Simple Tteokbokki Recipe from – Enjoy the Classic Korean Snack with Ease
I saw this recipe on a rerun and it looked so delicious, I just had to try it myself!
Main Ingredients- 1 pack Tteokbokki rice cakes
- 2 sheets of fish cakes (eomuk)
- 1 packet of instant ramen noodles
- 2 hard-boiled eggs
Seasoning Ingredients- 700ml water
- 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 1/2 packet instant ramen soup base (or to taste)

Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, pour 700ml of water into a pot and bring it to a boil over high heat. While the water is heating up, prepare the other ingredients.
Step 2
Cut the fish cakes into large, bite-sized pieces. Avoid cutting them too small, as this will enhance the chewy texture of the tteokbokki.
Step 3
Once the water is boiling vigorously, add the tteokbokki rice cakes and the hard-boiled eggs. Stir in 2 tablespoons of gochujang for spiciness and 1 tablespoon of sugar for sweetness, mixing well.
Step 4
Now it’s time to add the instant ramen noodles, which will bring another fun element to the tteokbokki. Add about half of the ramen soup base packet as well to deepen the flavor. (Adjust to your preference)
Step 5
Simmer until the rice cakes are tender and the sauce has thickened slightly. Then, reduce the heat to medium-low. Cooking over high heat for too long can cause the rice cakes to stick to the bottom of the pot.
Step 6
When the ramen noodles are almost cooked, add the sliced fish cakes. Fish cakes can become too soft if overcooked, so add them near the end and cook just briefly.
Step 7
Finally, add 1 tablespoon of honey to give the tteokbokki a glossy finish and a sweet flavor. The honey will enhance the overall savory taste of the dish.
Step 8
Simmer for a little longer until all the ingredients are well combined and the flavors have melded together. Your delicious tteokbokki is ready! Enjoy it while it’s hot.
