Main Ingredients

  • 600g Tteokguk rice cakes (sliced rice cakes for soup)
  • 1 bag Kimchi dumplings
  • 1/2 stalk Scallion (green onion)
  • 2 small pouches Store-bought beef bone broth
  • 2 Eggs

Seasoning & Other Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Salt
  • Pinch of Black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
  • 1L Water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, pour the 2 pouches of store-bought beef bone broth and 1L of water into a pot. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat. While the broth is boiling, prepare the other ingredients.

Step 1

Step 2

Rinse the tteokguk rice cakes under warm water to remove any residue. Gently separate any pieces that are stuck together. This ensures the rice cakes cook evenly and don’t clump.

Step 2

Step 3

If your kimchi dumplings need thawing, do so beforehand, or you can use them directly from frozen. Ensure there’s enough space in the pot for the dumplings to cook properly.

Step 3

Step 4

Wash and finely chop the scallions. In a small bowl, crack the 2 eggs and mix them with the chopped scallions to create an egg wash. Mix gently to keep the texture of the scallions intact.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the beef bone broth is boiling vigorously, add the prepared tteokguk rice cakes. Stir well with a spatula to prevent the rice cakes from sticking to the bottom of the pot.

Step 5

Step 6

After adding the rice cakes and letting them boil for a moment, add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic, 1 tsp of salt, and a pinch of black pepper to season the broth. You can adjust the seasoning to your preference.

Step 6

Step 7

The rice cakes will float to the surface when they are cooked. At this point, carefully add the prepared kimchi dumplings.

Step 7

Step 8

Let the soup simmer for about 5 minutes after adding the dumplings to ensure they are cooked through. Then, gently pour the prepared egg wash over the surface of the soup. Once the egg begins to set slightly (after about 30 seconds), resist the urge to stir. Let it cook for a moment. After a short pause, use a ladle to gently scrape the bottom of the pot and disperse the cooked egg throughout the soup. Finally, boil for an additional minute until everything is well combined. Your delicious Kimchi Dumpling and Beef Bone Broth Tteokguk is ready! Enjoy it hot.
