Refreshing Baek Jong-won’s Cold Ramen Recipe
Super Simple Baek Jong-won’s Cold Ramen You Can Enjoy at Home
Beat the summer heat with this delightful cold ramen, a perfect alternative when regular ramen feels too hot! This recipe is versatile, working well with most instant ramen brands, though it’s best to avoid those with overwhelmingly strong soup flavors, as the seasoning packet is incorporated into our special sauce. Let’s make Baek Jong-won’s signature cold ramen today for a wonderfully cool and satisfying meal!
Main Ingredients- 1 packet of instant ramen (your preferred brand)
- Ice cubes, as needed (for chilling)
- 1/6 onion
- 2 cups bean sprouts
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 cup (200ml) water
- 1 chili pepper (like Cheongyang chili)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare one packet of instant ramen for your dish. Any brand will work beautifully!
Step 2
Rinse the bean sprouts thoroughly. If you don’t have bean sprouts, don’t worry! Thinly sliced cabbage, or mushrooms like enoki or king oyster mushrooms, can also add a wonderful texture. Bean sprouts, however, provide a delightful crispiness.
Step 3
Thinly slice the onion. We’ll skip the garlic today, as its strong aroma might overpower the refreshing cold ramen taste. Finely chop the chili pepper – you can adjust the amount based on your preference for spiciness.
Step 4
Now, let’s make the star of our cold ramen: the special sauce! In a bowl, combine 1 cup (200ml) of water with the ramen soup packet and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar (or brown sugar). Stir well to dissolve. (Pro Tip: Using cactus powder instead of brown sugar can add a healthy twist and unique flavor.) If the soup powder is hard to dissolve in cold water, try mixing it with a little warm water first before adding the rest of the cold water.
Step 5
Add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 2 tablespoons of vinegar to the sauce mixture. Toss in some of the chopped chili pepper for an extra kick of flavor. Your delicious cold ramen sauce is now ready!
Step 6
Bring a generous amount of water to a boil in a pot. Once boiling, add the bean sprouts, followed by the ramen noodles, the dried vegetable packet from the ramen, and the sliced onions all at once. Cooking everything together simplifies the process!
Step 7
As soon as the noodles are cooked, quickly drain them and rinse them under ice-cold water. This step is key! Rinsing in ice water makes the noodles wonderfully chewy and firm, while keeping the bean sprouts refreshingly crisp.
Step 8
Arrange the chilled noodles and bean sprouts attractively in a serving bowl. Garnish with the remaining chopped chili pepper on top.
Step 9
Finally, pour the specially made Baek Jong-won cold ramen sauce generously over the noodles.
Step 10
Voila! Your incredibly refreshing Baek Jong-won cold ramen is complete. Enjoy this perfect summer treat!
