How to Make Delicious Street Toast with a Secret Sauce!
Enjoy a hearty and flavorful street toast right at home! This recipe features a thick, fluffy egg omelet packed with fresh vegetables, making it a perfect snack or a satisfying meal replacement. The homemade condensed milk and mayonnaise sauce adds a delightful touch of sweetness and richness.
Toast Ingredients- 10 slices of bread
- 11 eggs
- 1/4 head of cabbage
- 1/6 carrot
- 1 onion (small)
- 1/3 stalk of green onion
- 5 Tbsp corn kernels (drained)
- Salt to taste
- Pinch of black pepper
- 6 sausages (or sliced ham)
- 5 slices of cheese
- Cooking oil as needed
- Butter for cooking
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the vegetables. Finely shred the cabbage, onion, and carrot. I used one small onion, about the size of your fist. If you’re using a larger onion, half of it should suffice. Finely chopped vegetables blend better into the egg mixture and create a pleasant texture.
Step 2
Finely chop the green onion as well. The aromatic quality of the green onion will add a delicious flavor to the egg omelet.
Step 3
Prepare your sausages or ham. If you have sliced ham, you can use that, but I used 6 small sausages cut into thumb-sized pieces. Adding sausages or ham makes the toast more substantial and flavorful.
Step 4
In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, onion, green onion, carrot, and the chopped sausages (or ham). Drain the canned corn and add 5 tablespoons. Crack all 11 eggs into the bowl. Season with a little salt and pepper.
Step 5
Using chopsticks, thoroughly mix the eggs and all the vegetables in the bowl. Ensure the vegetables are evenly distributed within the egg mixture.
Step 6
Now, let’s make the thick egg omelet! Using an omelet pan makes it easier to shape the egg mixture to fit the bread. Generously grease the pan with cooking oil, then pour in the vegetable-egg mixture. I filled the pan about halfway to create a thick omelet.
Step 7
Since the omelet is thick, it will take time to cook. Cook it slowly over low heat to prevent burning. Once one side is partially cooked, use a spatula to cut the omelet into four sections. This will make it much easier to flip.
Step 8
Carefully flip each section of the omelet and cook until both sides are golden brown and cooked through. Make sure the inside is cooked properly.
Step 9
If you don’t have an omelet pan, you can use a regular frying pan. Pour the egg mixture into the pan and use a spatula to shape it into a square as it cooks. The key is to shape it and cook it slowly.
Step 10
We need to toast the bread too! Melt a little butter in a pan and toast the bread slices until golden brown on both sides. The butter adds a wonderful flavor.
Step 11
Place the toasted, crispy bread slices on a wire rack. This helps prevent them from becoming soggy.
Step 12
Let’s make the special sauce that will elevate this street toast! Traditionally, I might use just ketchup and sugar, but today, I’m adding a smoother, richer sauce. Condensed milk adds a wonderful sweetness, and mixing it with mayonnaise in a 1:1 ratio provides a delicious creamy and savory flavor. Combine 5 Tbsp of mayonnaise and 5 Tbsp of condensed milk in a bowl and mix well.
Step 13
Spread a thin layer of strawberry jam (or your preferred fruit jam) on one side of the toasted bread. (Feel free to use a different jam or omit this step.) Place the thick egg omelet on top and generously drizzle with ketchup. I used to add a lot of sugar, but since we have the sweet sauce, I’ve either omitted the sugar or added just a tiny bit.
Step 14
Place a slice of cheese on top of the ketchup, and spread a generous amount of the prepared condensed milk mayo sauce on the other slice of bread. Then, place it on top to complete your delicious street toast! It’s wonderfully rich and sweet.
