Kid-Friendly Potato Steak: A Delicious and Nutritious Meal
Soft and Savory Potato Steak

Here’s a delightful potato steak recipe perfect for a child’s meal or a wholesome snack. This dish combines the comforting texture of mashed potatoes with savory ground beef, offering a balanced and tasty option. A hint of chili adds a subtle kick, preventing it from being too rich.
Main Ingredients- 600g Potatoes (about 4-5 medium-sized)
- 200g Ground Beef
- 1/4 small Onion, finely minced
- 1/2 small Green Chili, finely minced (optional, adjust to taste or omit for no heat)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by thoroughly washing and peeling the potatoes. Dice them into bite-sized cubes, about 2-3 cm. Place the cubed potatoes in a pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender. Drain the cooked potatoes and mash them while they are still warm. To prevent lumpiness, you can press the mashed potatoes through a sieve or break them up well as they cool slightly.
Step 2
In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, ground beef, finely minced onion, and finely minced green chili. Season with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Add breadcrumbs generously until the mixture holds its shape when formed into patties. The amount of breadcrumbs needed might vary depending on the moisture content of the potatoes, so aim for a consistency where you can easily form patties without them falling apart. Mix all ingredients thoroughly by kneading, then shape the mixture into round, flat steak-like patties. Making them a moderate size is ideal for children.
Step 3
For an optional textural enhancement, you can mix in 1-2 tablespoons of cornstarch. This will give the potato steaks a slightly chewier and more resilient texture when cooked. If you choose to add cornstarch, incorporate it with the other ingredients in the previous step and mix well.
Step 4
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully place the shaped potato steaks into the hot oil. Cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Once they have a nice crisp exterior and are heated through, your delicious potato steaks are ready to serve. Enjoy them with ketchup or your child’s favorite dipping sauce for a satisfying meal.
