Sweet Pumpkin and Potato Cream Puree
Mid-Stage Baby Food: Creamy Pumpkin Potato Puree for 8-Month-Olds
Here’s a simple and delicious pumpkin and potato cream puree recipe perfect as a snack for your 8-month-old baby. This mid-stage baby food is easy to make, packed with nutrients, and has a wonderfully smooth texture that babies love. It’s an ideal way to introduce new flavors and textures as your baby progresses.
Ingredients- 60g Kabocha Squash (Pumpkin)
- 40g Potato
- 20ml Formula (or breast milk)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Peel the potato and soak it in water for about 10 minutes, or rinse it thoroughly under running water to remove excess starch. This step helps to achieve a smoother texture and cleaner taste in the puree.
Step 2
Cut the kabocha squash in half, scoop out the seeds, and then microwave it for 1-2 minutes to make peeling easier. Once softened, peel the squash and cut it into manageable pieces. (Tip: Using pre-frozen kabocha squash that you’ve prepared for baby food will make this process even quicker.)
Step 3
Place the prepared kabocha squash and potato in a steamer basket and steam for about 15-20 minutes, or until very tender when pierced with a fork. The standard ratio is 6:4 (squash to potato), but if your baby prefers a sweeter taste, you can adjust it to a 7:3 ratio.
Step 4
Transfer the steamed kabocha squash and potato to a blender or use an immersion blender. Blending while the ingredients are still warm will result in a smoother consistency.
Step 5
Add the prepared formula (or breast milk), 20ml, to the blender. Blend until you achieve a smooth, creamy consistency. You can adjust the thickness by adding a little more formula or cooled boiled water if needed, depending on your baby’s eating ability.
Step 6
Observe the vibrant colors of the blended puree. The rich yellow from the kabocha squash and the soft white from the potato create an appealing and appetizing hue.
Step 7
Pour the smooth, creamy pumpkin and potato puree into baby food containers. This recipe yields approximately two servings. Portion accordingly and refrigerate or freeze, then reheat before serving to your little one.
