Ham and Cheese Bread Pudding

A Satisfying Snack or Meal: Ham and Cheese Sandwich Pudding

Ham and Cheese Bread Pudding

I impulse-bought some sliced ham during a ‘buy one, get one free’ sale, and now it’s taking up space in my fridge with its expiration date looming! Since most recipes don’t call for large amounts of sliced ham, and I bought two packs, I was pondering what to make. Then, I decided to make the bread pudding that my kids love. This recipe is simple, filling, and perfect as a snack or brunch.

Main Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread
  • 1 slice of processed ham
  • 1 slice of cheddar cheese
  • 2 Tbsp shredded mozzarella cheese

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare two slices of bread. Spread about 1/2 tablespoon of oligodang (or corn syrup/honey) evenly on one side of each slice of bread. This totals 1 tablespoon. The oligodang will add a subtle sweetness and create a slightly glazed surface.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, place one slice of processed sandwich ham neatly on top of the oligodang-coated bread. The savory ham will complement the sweetness of the pudding, enhancing the overall flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

Layer one slice of cheddar cheese on top of the ham, then cover it with the other slice of bread, also coated with oligodang, to form a sandwich. The melting cheese will help bind the ingredients and add a rich, cheesy flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, it’s time to cut the sandwich into portions. Cut the sandwich in half lengthwise, and then cut each half in half crosswise. This will result in 8 bite-sized pieces, perfect for the pudding.

Step 4

Step 5

Arrange the cut bread pieces snugly into an oven-safe dish or ramekin, with the cut sides facing outwards. Packing them tightly allows the pudding mixture to soak in evenly, ensuring a moist texture.

Step 5

Step 6

Let’s make the pudding custard. In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of milk and 1 large egg. Add a pinch of herbed salt to help eliminate any eggy odor. Whisk until well combined and smooth.

Step 6

Step 7

Pour the prepared custard mixture evenly over the ham and cheese sandwiches packed in the oven dish. Let it sit for a few minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid thoroughly.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, sprinkle 2 tablespoons of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top. Add a pinch of dried parsley flakes for a touch of color. Bake in a preheated oven at 150°C (300°F) for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown and the pudding is set and slightly jiggly.
