Crisp Lettuce Rolled Omelette
Savory and Refreshing Lettuce Rolled Omelette Recipe
I stumbled upon this recipe on YouTube and was curious about the taste, so I decided to give it a try! The combination of crisp lettuce and a delicate, savory omelette is truly delicious. It’s simple yet offers a unique and delightful flavor experience.
Ingredients- 5 large lettuce leaves
- 4 eggs
- 2 pinches of salt
- A dash of pepper
- Cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the lettuce leaves thoroughly under running water and pat them dry. Finely chop the lettuce; slicing it into thin strips will enhance the texture.
Step 2
Place the chopped lettuce into a bowl.
Step 3
Separate the egg yolks from the whites, placing each into a separate bowl. This step helps to maximize the distinct flavors and textures of both components.
Step 4
In the bowl with the egg whites, add one pinch of salt and a dash of pepper. Whisk gently until just combined. Be careful not to over-whisk, as too much air can make the omelette overly fluffy.
Step 5
In the bowl with the egg yolks, add the remaining pinch of salt and mix well. Simply break up the yolks until smooth.
Step 6
Pour the whisked egg whites into the bowl with the chopped lettuce and mix everything together evenly. Ensure the lettuce is well coated with the egg white mixture.
Step 7
Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. The oil should be hot but not smoking; too high heat will burn the eggs.
Step 8
Once the oil is sufficiently hot, pour the lettuce and egg white mixture into the pan. Use a spatula or spoon to spread it thinly and evenly across the pan, ensuring the lettuce is distributed uniformly.
Step 9
When the bottom layer starts to set and turn golden, carefully begin to roll the omelette from one side towards the other using chopsticks or a spatula. Avoid pressing down too firmly to maintain a delicate texture.
Step 10
Gently push the rolled omelette to one side of the pan. Pour the whisked egg yolks into the empty space. Once the yolk mixture begins to set slightly, bring the previously rolled omelette over to continue rolling it within the yolk layer. This creates a beautiful layered appearance.
Step 11
Carefully remove the completed omelette from the pan and place it on a bamboo mat or parchment paper to cool slightly. If you slice it while too hot, it may fall apart, so allowing it to cool just enough will help it hold its shape beautifully.
Step 12
Once slightly cooled, slice the lettuce rolled omelette into bite-sized pieces (about 1.5-2 cm thick) and arrange them on a serving plate. It’s delicious served as is, or you can enjoy it with ketchup or mayonnaise for added flavor.
