Colorful Paprika Steamed Egg
Healthy Steamed Egg Baked Inside a Paprika
Elevate your steamed egg game! This recipe uses a vibrant paprika as its cooking vessel, resulting in a dish that’s not only visually appealing but also healthier and more delicious. It’s a fantastic option for a kids’ snack or a special brunch.
Main Ingredients- 1 Paprika (choose your favorite color)
- 1 Egg
- 1 tsp Mirin (to remove egg smell)
- 0.5 tsp Salt
- Pinch of Black Pepper
- A touch of Sesame Oil
- A little Sesame Seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the paprika thoroughly. Trim off the stem slightly to create a stable base and prevent the egg mixture from leaking out.
Step 2
Carefully remove the seeds and the white pith from the inside of the paprika. This prepared paprika will serve as your edible bowl for the steamed egg.
Step 3
Finely mince the carrot and scallion. You can also use other leftover vegetables from your fridge, such as zucchini or onion. Finely chopped vegetables cook evenly and provide a pleasant texture within the paprika.
Step 4
In a mixing bowl, crack the egg and whisk it until smooth. Add the minced vegetables (carrot, scallion), mirin, salt, sesame oil, and sesame seeds. Stir everything together gently until well combined, creating a smooth egg mixture.
Step 5
Fill the prepared paprika bowl with the egg mixture, only up to about 70% of its capacity. The egg will puff up as it cooks, so avoid overfilling to prevent overflow.
Step 6
Place the paprika lid back on. Cook in an air fryer at 180°C (356°F) for 15 minutes. Then, check the doneness and lower the temperature to 160°C (320°F) for another 10 minutes, ensuring the egg is fully cooked through. Covering the paprika helps prevent the top of the egg from burning and keeps it moist.
Step 7
It’s crucial to cover the paprika while cooking. This step prevents the top surface of the steamed egg from burning and ensures a moist, tender texture.
Step 8
If the steamed egg isn’t fully cooked after the initial air frying, transfer the paprika to a microwave-safe dish and microwave for an additional 5 minutes. Cooking times may vary depending on the size and thickness of the paprika and your cooking appliance.
Step 9
Once cooked, let the paprika rest for 2-3 minutes before serving. Then, carefully cut the paprika into 2-4 wedges. The steamed egg is ready when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, with no wet egg mixture clinging to it. If it’s still a bit undercooked, continue cooking for a few more minutes.
Step 10
Serve the beautifully cooked paprika steamed egg on a plate. This visually appealing dish, which delights both the eyes and the palate, offers a wonderful combination of tender steamed egg and sweet, soft paprika.
