Main Ingredients- 1 serving Pasta (Spaghetti or Linguine)
- 6 medium Shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 Korean Cheongyang chili pepper (or other mild red chili)
- 1/2 medium Onion
- 2 slices Ham or Bacon
Seasoning & Aromatics- 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp Salt (for boiling pasta)
- 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
- Pinch of Black Pepper
- 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp Salt (for boiling pasta)
- 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
- Pinch of Black Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables and other ingredients that will be stir-fried with the pasta. Thinly slice the onion. Finely chop the Cheongyang chili pepper (remove seeds if you prefer less heat). Slice the ham or bacon into bite-sized pieces.
Step 2
In a large pot, bring plenty of water to a rolling boil. Add 1/2 Tbsp of salt to the boiling water. Once the water is boiling vigorously, add the pasta and cook for about 8-9 minutes, or 1 minute less than the package instructions. This ensures the pasta will be al dente when finished in the pan.
Step 3
While the pasta is cooking, let’s make the delicious soy sauce dressing. In a small bowl, combine 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, and 1 Tbsp sesame oil. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved. Preparing this ahead of time makes it easy to add to the pan once the ingredients are sautéed.
Step 4
Once the pasta is cooked, drain it immediately using a colander. To prevent the noodles from sticking together, drizzle about 1 Tbsp of olive oil over the drained pasta and toss gently to coat.
Step 5
Now, let’s stir-fry the pasta. Heat 1 Tbsp of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds, being careful not to burn it. Then, add the sliced onion, ham (or bacon), and shrimp in that order. Stir-fry until the ingredients begin to soften and cook through.
Step 6
As the onions become translucent and the ham and shrimp start to cook, add the chopped Cheongyang chili pepper. Continue to stir-fry everything together until well combined and fragrant. The chili pepper will add a pleasant spicy note to the dish.
Step 7
Once the ingredients are nicely sautéed, pour the prepared soy sauce dressing into the pan. Add the drained pasta to the skillet. Increase the heat to high and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes, tossing constantly, allowing the sauce to coat the pasta and thicken slightly. The pasta should become glossy.
Step 8
Finally, season with a pinch of black pepper to taste. Your delicious Soy Sauce Pasta is ready to be served! Enjoy immediately while hot.
