Main Ingredients

  • 350g boiled ferns
  • A little green onion, finely chopped

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce for soup (guk-ganjang)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1.5 Tbsp sesame oil
  • A pinch of sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, rinse the boiled ferns under cold running water about 1-2 times. Select and discard any parts that are too mushy or easily fall apart. Then, cut the ferns into bite-sized pieces, about 5-7 cm in length. This preparation step ensures a better texture for your stir-fried ferns.

Step 1

Step 2

In a bowl, combine the cut ferns with the chopped green onion and all the seasoning ingredients (minced garlic, soy sauce for soup, sugar, and sesame oil). Gently mix everything together with your hands, ensuring the seasoning coats the ferns evenly. Letting it marinate for a short while will help the flavors penetrate deeper.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a pan over medium heat. Add the seasoned ferns to the pan and begin to stir-fry. Starting with medium heat rather than high heat will help to cook the ferns gently and evenly.

Step 3

Step 4

As you stir-fry, the ferns will naturally release their moisture. Continue to cook until this moisture has almost completely evaporated and the ferns are lightly coated. Taste the ferns at this stage and adjust the seasoning if necessary, by adding a little more soy sauce or salt to your preference. This process enhances the depth of flavor in the ferns.

Step 4

Step 5

Once most of the moisture has evaporated and the ferns have a nice glossy sheen, turn off the heat. Finally, sprinkle generously with sesame seeds for an added nutty aroma and flavor. Your delicious stir-fried ferns are now ready to be served! They are especially wonderful served over a bowl of warm rice.
