Acorn Jelly with Savory & Spicy Sauce: A Versatile Condiment
Making Acorn Jelly and a Multi-Purpose Sauce
Acorn jelly, a naturally pure food rich in tannins, is known for its slightly bitter taste and digestive benefits. This versatile sauce, made with fresh green onions, perfectly complements the acorn jelly and can be used for various dishes. Enjoy a healthy and delicious meal!
Ingredients- 1 block store-bought acorn jelly (approx. 300-400g)
Sauce Ingredients- 5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2-3 stalks green onions (scallions) or white part of leeks
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1-2 Tbsp corn syrup or oligosaccharide syrup (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp perilla oil (or sesame oil)
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2-3 stalks green onions (scallions) or white part of leeks
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1-2 Tbsp corn syrup or oligosaccharide syrup (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp perilla oil (or sesame oil)
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Finely chop the green onions. If using leeks, mince the white parts. This will add a fresh, aromatic flavor to your sauce.
Step 2
In a mixing bowl, combine 5 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 1-2 Tbsp corn syrup (adjust sweetness to your preference), 1 Tbsp perilla oil (or sesame oil for a different nutty aroma), and 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds.
Step 3
Add the finely chopped green onions to the sauce mixture and stir everything together thoroughly. This versatile sauce is wonderful for mixing with rice, perfect for topping seasoned rice dishes like bean sprout rice, excellent for dipping grilled tofu, and, as shown today, a delicious accompaniment to acorn jelly.
Step 4
Gently rinse the acorn jelly under cold water and pat it dry. Cut it into bite-sized pieces, about 2cm thick. Feel free to add thinly sliced vegetables like cucumber or carrots if you have them on hand for extra texture and nutrition.
Step 5
Arrange the cut acorn jelly on a plate. Generously spoon the prepared savory and spicy sauce over the acorn jelly. Serve immediately and enjoy the delightful contrast between the slightly bitter jelly and the flavorful sauce!
