Create a Cute Bento Box That Kids Will Love!
To celebrate the Year of the Rooster in 2017, we’ve crafted a charming chicken-shaped bento box using ingredients that children adore! This recipe is easy to make and perfect for a special treat.
Main Ingredients- 1 bowl of cooked white rice
- 1 slice of ham
- 3 small sausages
- 2 fresh eggs
- 1 lettuce leaf
- 1 mandarin orange (tangerine)
- A sheet of roasted seaweed
Seasoning- A little sesame oil
- A pinch of salt
- A little ketchup
- A little sesame oil
- A pinch of salt
- A little ketchup
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Season the warm rice with a little sesame oil and salt. Gently mix it together. Shape the rice into a round, slightly flattened disc to form the chicken’s body. Making it an easy-to-handle size for children is recommended.
Step 2
Prepare the ham and sausages. You can cut the ham into a cross shape to resemble a flower or simply cut it into circles. For the sausages, make shallow cuts to allow them to fan out like a flower when cooked. Lightly oil a frying pan and cook the ham and sausages until golden brown. Shaping them into cute, kid-friendly forms will be extra special.
Step 3
Crack the two eggs into a bowl and whisk them with a pinch of salt until well combined. Pour the egg mixture into a lightly oiled, medium-low heat pan. Before the egg is fully set on top, gently roll it up using chopsticks or a spatula. Once fully cooked, transfer it to a cutting board and let it cool slightly. Then, slice it into pieces (about 1 cm thick) – these can be used for the chicken’s comb or other decorative elements.
Step 4
Now, it’s time to artfully arrange all the delicious components in the bento box! Start by placing the round rice ball as the base for the chicken’s body. Fill the surrounding space with the cooked ham, sausages, and pieces of egg crepe, creating a colorful assortment. Placing a fresh lettuce leaf underneath will add a touch of vibrant green. Finally, use the roasted seaweed to cut out and create the chicken’s eyes and beak. Add pieces of egg crepe for a rosy cheek or a comb, and a small dollop of ketchup for extra flair – your adorable chicken face is complete! The mandarin orange can be included as a sweet dessert. Adding a fun sticker or a small fork will make the bento even more exciting for your child!
