A Fun Spam & Rice Patty Recipe to Make with Kids

Ingredients- 1 can Spam (sliced or cut into shapes)
- 1/2 bowl of warm cooked rice
- 1 large egg
- 2 mini bell peppers (or finely chopped vegetables like carrots, zucchini, etc., that your child enjoys)
- A small amount of finely minced carrot (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the vegetables from your refrigerator (like mini bell peppers, carrots) by finely chopping them into bite-sized pieces suitable for children. Slice the Spam to a thickness that can be easily cut with cookie cutters.
Step 2
Open the can of Spam. Use your favorite cookie cutters (stars, hearts, animals) to create fun shapes, or simply slice it into uniform pieces. Using cookie cutters will make the patties extra appealing to kids.
Step 3
In a bowl, crack the egg and whisk it well. Add the finely chopped vegetables (mini bell peppers, carrots, etc.) to the whisked egg and mix thoroughly. Finely chopping the vegetables ensures they blend well with the rice and are less noticeable to picky eaters.

Add the warm cooked rice (about 1/2 bowl) to the vegetable and egg mixture. Gently mix with a spatula or spoon, being careful not to mash the rice grains. Ensure the rice is evenly coated with the vegetables and egg mixture without clumping.

Carefully fill the shaped Spam slices (or regular slices) with the rice and vegetable mixture. Press down gently to ensure the mixture is packed securely and won’t fall out during cooking.

Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium-low heat. Place the filled Spam patties in the pan and cook until golden brown on both sides. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent the rice from burning.
