Air Fryer Mackerel with Citron Marmalade
Easy Air Fryer Mackerel Recipe: Delicious Fillet Mackerel with Citron Marmalade for a Perfect Rice Companion
A plate of freshly steamed rice with a piece of perfectly grilled mackerel is a culinary delight! Mackerel, with its subtly charming appeal, is a frequent star on our table, even for breakfast, thanks to its delicious flavor and satisfying texture. Using an air fryer makes preparing this dish incredibly quick and effortless. This time, I’ve enhanced the classic grilled mackerel with my favorite citron marmalade sauce, creating a delightful #CitronMackerelGrill, perfectly complemented by a side of seaweed pickles. Mackerel is a versatile fish, celebrated as a staple in Korean cuisine, enjoyed grilled, braised, or steamed. I always keep pre-portioned, boneless mackerel fillets on hand for convenience.
Main Ingredients- 2 fillets of boneless mackerel
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil or olive oil
Citron Marmalade Sauce- 1.5 Tbsp citron marmalade
- 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp perilla oil
- 1.5 Tbsp citron marmalade
- 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp perilla oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
To remove any fishiness, soak the boneless mackerel fillets in rice water for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, rinse them under running water and thoroughly pat them dry with paper towels. Drizzle the mackerel with cooking oil, ensuring it’s coated evenly. If desired, you can score the skin to help the marinade penetrate better and enhance the flavor.
Step 2
Preheat your oven-style air fryer to 190°C (375°F). Place the prepared mackerel fillets in the preheated air fryer and grill for approximately 12 minutes for the first stage. This initial grilling helps to achieve a nice golden-brown exterior.
Step 3
While the mackerel is grilling, prepare the citron marmalade sauce. In a small bowl, combine the citron marmalade, soy sauce, and perilla oil. Whisk together until well incorporated.
Step 4
After the initial 12 minutes, check on the mackerel. You’ll notice it has turned a beautiful golden-brown color, indicating it’s well on its way to being perfectly cooked with a crispy outside and tender inside.
Step 5
Now, carefully brush the prepared citron marmalade sauce evenly over the surface of the partially grilled mackerel. Ensure a good coating for maximum flavor. Return the mackerel to the air fryer and continue to grill for another 5 to 6 minutes. This final step allows the sauce to caramelize slightly, deepening the delicious aroma and taste.
