Potatoes are rich in carbohydrates, dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin B6, and potassium, offering substantial nutritional benefits. Cabbage is known to activate white blood cells and is effective against stomach cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and breast cancer. Ingredients

  • 1 ripe, fully red tomato
  • 1 medium potato
  • 400g cabbage
  • 4 cups glutinous brown rice
  • A small amount of mixed grains

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Begin by preparing your ingredients. Thoroughly wash the tomato, potato, and cabbage. To ensure any residual pesticides are removed, it’s recommended to soak them in water with calcium powder for about 30 minutes.

Step 1

Step 2

Rinse the 4 cups of glutinous brown rice and the mixed grains until the water runs clear. Gently rub the grains while rinsing to ensure they are thoroughly cleaned. Continue rinsing until the water is no longer cloudy.

Step 2

Step 3

Next, prepare the vegetables. Dice the potato and tomato into approximately 1.5cm cubes. You can peel them if you prefer, or leave the skins on for extra nutrients. Shred the cabbage into medium-thick strips.

Step 3

Step 4

Add the washed glutinous brown rice and mixed grains to your rice cooker. Then, add the diced potato, tomato, and shredded cabbage. Now, add water. The water level should be just enough to barely cover the rice and vegetables, about two-thirds of the way up. Be careful not to add too much water, as this can make the rice mushy.

Step 4

Step 5

I am using a rice cooker and have selected the ‘mixed grains’ setting. Press the cook button and wait for the rice to finish. If you’re using a regular pot, bring it to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing it to steam.

Step 6

The aroma filling the kitchen is wonderful! Tomato rice might sound unusual, but this combination of tomato, brown rice, and mixed grains is surprisingly delicious. It’s a truly tasty and highly nutritious dish.
