  • 150cc water (approx. 1 cup)
  • 1/2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)

Filling Ingredients

  • 60g chives (approx. 1/2 bundle)
  • 50g apple (about 1/4 apple)
  • 20g onion (about 1/8 onion)
  • 1 Cheongyang chili pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the vegetables. Trim and wash the chives thoroughly, then finely chop them into about 1-2 cm lengths. Core the apple and slice it thinly into matchsticks. Slice the onion similarly to the apple. For a touch of heat, remove the stem and seeds from the Cheongyang chili pepper and mince it finely. These prepared vegetables will add wonderful flavor and texture to your Jangtteok.

Step 2

Now, it’s time to make the delicious batter. In a large bowl, combine 150cc of pancake mix and 150cc of water in a 1:1 ratio. Whisk in 1/2 tablespoon of gochujang for a savory and mildly spicy kick, ensuring it’s well dissolved without lumps. The batter should be of a thick, pourable consistency – not too watery, not too stiff. Finally, add the prepared chives, apple matchsticks, onion matchsticks, and minced chili pepper to the batter. Gently mix everything together with a spatula until the vegetables are evenly coated.

Step 3

Finally, let’s pan-fry them until golden brown and crispy. Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Once the oil is hot, pour about one ladleful of the batter onto the pan, spreading it thinly. Reduce the heat to low and cook until golden brown on one side, then flip. Ensure it’s cooked through and crispy on both sides. Continue cooking until the other side is also golden brown. Your delicious Apple Chive Jangtteok is now ready! It’s best enjoyed hot off the pan.
