Rice Cooking Ingredients

  • 200g Chwinamul (prepared)
  • 2 cups Rice

Chwinamul Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp Doenjang (Korean soybean paste)
  • 1 Tbsp Guk-ganjang (Korean soup soy sauce)
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil

Dipping Sauce

  • 3 Tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 0.5 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • A sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds
  • Appropriate amount of green onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 red chilies or Cheongyang peppers (seeds removed and minced)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Rinse the store-bought Chwinamul thoroughly under running water multiple times. Squeeze out excess water with your hands and place it in a bowl, cut into bite-sized pieces. Add the seasoning ingredients: 1 Tbsp Doenjang, 1 Tbsp Guk-ganjang, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1 Tbsp sesame oil.

Gently mix the Chwinamul with your hands until the seasoning is well distributed. Toss gently to release the aromatic scent of the Chwinamul.

Add the washed and drained rice to your rice cooker. Place the seasoned Chwinamul on top. Lightly stir once or twice with a spatula to combine the Chwinamul with the rice. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the rice mushy.

Cook the rice as you normally would, ensuring the water level is correct for your rice cooker. Use the regular white rice setting.

While the rice is cooking, let’s prepare the dipping sauce. In a bowl, combine all the sauce ingredients: 3 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic, and 0.5 Tbsp gochugaru.

Add the finely chopped green onion and minced chili peppers (red or Cheongyang). Stir everything together evenly to create the dipping sauce. Adjust the amount of chili peppers to your preference.
