Main Ingredients- 1 block firm tofu
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2-3 heads broccoli, cut into bite-sized florets
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp red chili flakes (gochugaru)
- Pinch of salt
Seasoning & Spices- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp red chili flakes (gochugaru)
- Pinch of salt
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp red chili flakes (gochugaru)
- Pinch of salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the tofu into your desired size, such as 2-3 cm cubes. Place the cut tofu in a bowl. Add the seasoning ingredients for the marinade (1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp olive oil, 1/2 tsp red chili flakes, and a pinch of salt) and gently toss to coat the tofu evenly. Let it marinate for about 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate.
Step 2
In a separate small bowl, combine the cumin powder (1/2 tsp), red chili flakes (1/2 tsp), and a pinch of salt. Mix these spices well. This blend will add a wonderful depth of flavor when stir-fried with the tofu.
Step 3
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat (use olive oil or your preferred cooking oil). Add the sliced onions and the bite-sized broccoli florets. Stir-fry until the onions become translucent and the broccoli is slightly tender, releasing their aroma.
Step 4
Add the marinated tofu to the pan with the sautéed vegetables. Gently stir-fry the tofu along with the marinade. Sprinkle the prepared cumin, chili flakes, and salt mixture over the tofu and vegetables. Continue to stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until the tofu is lightly golden and all ingredients are well combined and coated in the spices. Be careful not to overcook, as this can diminish the vibrant cumin aroma.
Step 5
Transfer the finished Cumin Tofu Stir-fry to a serving plate. For an authentic Southeast Asian touch, garnish with fresh cilantro leaves. (If you’re not a fan of cilantro, as the original author mentioned, you can substitute with thinly sliced green onions or minced garlic sautéed briefly for a delicious alternative.) Serve immediately while warm for the best taste experience.
