Aromatic Earl Grey Highball: Enjoy Home Cafe Cocktails
Making Park Na-rae’s Earl Grey Highball from ‘I Live Alone’ with Suntory Whisky
While I don’t watch TV often, ‘I Live Alone’ is a show I occasionally tune into. I saw Park Na-rae making an Earl Grey Highball on the program and decided to try it myself. It turned out to be a fantastic home cocktail! The subtle aroma of Earl Grey combined with the refreshing fizz makes for a perfect drink to whet your appetite and lift your spirits.
Ingredients- Earl Grey Syrup: 20ml
- Suntory Whisky (or your preferred whisky): 30ml
- Tonic Water: 150ml
- Fresh Lemon Juice: A splash (to taste)
- Ice: Plenty
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, fill your highball glass generously with ice, about 80% full. This ensures your cocktail stays chilled and dilutes slowly. Pour 20ml of Earl Grey syrup over the ice. The syrup will add a lovely fragrant sweetness.
Step 2
Next, add 30ml of whisky. The base ratio of Earl Grey syrup to whisky is 1:2, but feel free to adjust the amount of whisky to your personal taste or tolerance. I’m not a heavy drinker, so I used slightly less whisky than the standard recipe, which makes it wonderfully smooth.
Step 3
Gently pour 150ml of chilled tonic water into the glass. To preserve the carbonation, try pouring it down the side of the glass. Finally, add a splash of fresh lemon juice to your liking. The lemon juice adds a bright, refreshing note that balances the flavors. If you don’t have lemon, lime juice works beautifully too. For an even richer flavor, consider using freshly squeezed lemon or lime. Using tonic water, rather than plain sparkling water, is key to achieving that perfect harmony with the syrup and whisky.
Step 4
Using a bar spoon or a long spoon, gently stir from the bottom of the glass upwards to combine all the ingredients. Be careful not to stir too vigorously. Your delicious Earl Grey Highball is now ready! Personally, I find Suntory Highballs taste even better after the ice has melted slightly and the cocktail has become even colder. Give it a few minutes to reach its peak refreshment.
Step 5
Isn’t it simple? The photos above were taken the first time I made this recipe, but I’ve enjoyed it so much that I’ve made it frequently as a home cocktail ever since. Especially as the weather gets warmer, a cool and aromatic Earl Grey Highball is the perfect choice. Enjoy crafting your own unique cocktails at home!
