Discover this special homemade syrup recipe, capturing the sweet and tangy aroma of passion fruit peels. Utilizing easily discardable peels, this syrup is packed with flavor, fragrance, and beneficial vitamins and niacin for a healthy treat.
Syrup Ingredients- Approximately 30 fresh passion fruit peels
Syrup Seasoning- 500g sugar (equal weight to the passion fruit peels)
- 500g sugar (equal weight to the passion fruit peels)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly wash the fresh passion fruit peels under running water multiple times. It’s important to remove any impurities that might be on the peel’s surface.
Step 2
Finely chop the clean passion fruit peels into bite-sized pieces (about 1cm thick) using a knife. Place the chopped peels into a clean, sterilized glass jar, layering them neatly.
Step 3
Pour sugar over the passion fruit peels, ensuring they are completely covered. The ideal ratio of peels to sugar is 1:1 by weight, but you can adjust the sweetness to your preference. Covering the peels entirely with sugar is crucial for proper fermentation and preservation.
Step 4
Seal the jar tightly with its lid and let it ferment at cool room temperature, away from direct sunlight, for about 7 to 10 days. During this time, the sugar will dissolve, and the flavor and aroma of the passion fruit peels will infuse into the syrup.
Step 5
After about a week, as the sugar dissolves, a beautiful purple liquid will form and rise in the jar, indicating that your aromatic passion fruit peel syrup is ready. To ensure even infusion, gently shake the jar occasionally to mix the peels and syrup.
Step 6
To enjoy the finished passion fruit syrup, mix 2-3 tablespoons with warm water for a fragrant tea, or combine with cold water and ice for a refreshing ade. You’ll fully experience the unique, captivating aroma and sweet-tart flavor of passion fruit.
Step 7
Boost your health and enjoy the deliciousness with this passion fruit peel syrup, rich in Vitamin C and niacin! It can also be beneficial for skin health and boosting vitality.
