This recipe is designed to be gentle on the stomach while offering a comforting, sweet flavor.
Porridge Ingredients- 2 cups Gawa-ji No. 1 Rice
- 2 medium Sweet Pumpkins
- 5 Tbsp Sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 tsp Salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Today, we’re making Danhoppak Juk (Sweet Pumpkin Porridge), known for being easy to digest and delightfully sweet. The combination of rice and pumpkin is truly special!
Step 2
First, prepare 2 cups of Gawa-ji No. 1 rice and 2 medium-sized sweet pumpkins. It’s helpful to rinse the rice and let it drain beforehand.
Step 3
To make handling the pumpkin easier, we’ll use the microwave. Place the whole sweet pumpkins in the microwave and heat for about 5 minutes. This will partially cook the pumpkin, making it much simpler to peel and remove the seeds.
Step 4
Once removed from the microwave, cut off the top or bottom of the pumpkin. Then, use a spoon to scoop out all the seeds and fibrous strings from the inside. Make sure to thoroughly clean out the interior.
Step 5
Rinse the prepared Gawa-ji No. 1 rice, drain it, and then place it in a blender. Blend until it becomes a very fine powder, similar to flour. This ensures a smooth and creamy porridge texture.
Step 6
Add the peeled sweet pumpkin flesh to the blender. Pour in an appropriate amount of water and blend together until smooth. It’s important to achieve a smooth consistency for the pumpkin purée.
Step 7
Now, combine the finely blended pumpkin and the ground rice in a pot. Add enough water to reach your desired porridge consistency. Set the heat to medium and stir continuously with a spatula to prevent sticking. Cook until the rice grains are fully softened and the porridge has thickened nicely – this is key!
Step 8
Once the porridge has reached your desired thickness, add 5 tablespoons of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to season. Since sweet pumpkins are naturally sweet, you can adjust the sugar amount to your preference. Stir well and let it simmer for another moment.
Step 9
Voilà! Your delicious sweet pumpkin porridge is ready. The warm, sweet aroma is already making my mouth water.
Step 10
Enjoy a bowl of this nutritious and satisfying sweet pumpkin porridge. It’s wonderfully easy to digest and incredibly tasty, making it perfect for the whole family to share!
