Main Ingredients
  • 500g thinly sliced beef for bulgogi
  • 120g onion (about 1 medium)
  • 30g dried shiitake mushrooms (or 2-3 fresh shiitake mushrooms)
  • 30g green onion (about 1/2 stalk)
  • 10g red chili pepper (about 1/2)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the thinly sliced beef for bulgogi. Place the beef in a bowl, add 2.5 Tbsp sugar and 1 Tbsp corn syrup. Gently knead the meat with your hands to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed. Let it marinate for about 20 minutes; this will tenderize the meat and season it.

Step 2

To the beef that has marinated for 20 minutes, add 2 Tbsp of grated onion juice (about 20g), 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 6 Tbsp soy sauce, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix again thoroughly with your hands, ensuring all the marinade is well absorbed into the meat.

Step 3

Finally, add 1 Tbsp of sesame oil and mix lightly. Instead of cooking immediately, letting it marinate for another 10 minutes after adding sesame oil will further enhance the flavor.

Step 4

Prepare the vegetables for stir-frying. Slice the onion about 0.5 cm thick into chunky strips. If using dried shiitake mushrooms, rehydrate them in lukewarm water, remove the stems, and slice thinly. If using fresh shiitake, clean them and slice thinly. Cut the green onion into diagonal pieces about 5 cm long, and similarly slice the red chili pepper diagonally to add color.

Step 5

Now, add the prepared onion, shiitake mushrooms, green onion, and red chili pepper to the marinated beef. Add the remaining 2 Tbsp of sesame oil and gently toss everything together. It’s important to mix gently to avoid breaking the meat.

Step 6

Heat a pan over high heat, then add the marinated beef and vegetables. Stir-fry quickly over high heat, tossing frequently to prevent sticking. Continue to cook until the vegetables are slightly translucent and the meat is fully cooked. Your delicious bulgogi is ready! Enjoy it with a warm bowl of rice.
